Emidio Fenech was the first President. Abraham Vella was the first Vice President. John.

Maltese In the News was mentioned in the San Francisco Chronicle on 18 July 1973: Maltese-American Family Club's Activities in San Francisco By a Staff Reporter
Mr. Abraham D. Vella, vice-president and one of the founder members of the ‘‘Maltese- American Family Club" in San Francisco, California, is one of the hundreds of Maltese migrants at present holidaying in Malta. Last September a small group of Maltese-Americans met to discuss the possibility of forming a club in the "peninsula" — the area south of the city of San Francisco. A questionnaire had subsequently been sent to about 300 Maltese families half of whom replied to indicate their interest. The first general meeting was held last January at St. Robert’s Church Hall in the city of San Bruno. Thirty families became members after the first meeting.
A board of directors was formed under the leadership of Mr. Emidio Fenech and the Maltese-American Family Club started functioning. By the beginning of this month, four general meetings bad been held. In June the Club premises were established at 645/647 San Mateo Ave., San Bruno, 94066.
Mr. Vella yesterday said the future of the Club was promising and by the time he left the U.S.A. to fly to Malta the number of families registered for membership rose to 72. Mr. Vella stressed that one family membership comprised the husband, wife, sons and daughters over 18 years of age. Though the Club was basically a family social group, the committee members and families would do their best to help each other in different ways.

Maltese American Family Club (?) Per his son Christopher, John Sherry was president of MAFC in 1975 in 1975.
Maltese American Family Club (?) Founded as corporation in July 1975.
Maltese American Family Club (?) Eligio Vella's recollections: The club was conceived by Emidio Fenech in late 1972 or early 1973. He was the President, my father [Abraham Vella] was the Vice President and I was the Secretary. There were another two men (I do not remember them) who served in other capacities. I do not remember one John Sherry as ever having been President.

The driving concept was to form a "family club" with full participation from both men and women much like the Maltese Club is today. The Maltese club in the Bayview District of San Francisco was a gentlemen's club; women only were allowed to attend celebratory functions.

It took about one year of hard work to put the club together. We leased a small hall on San Mateo Avenue in San Bruno, acquired the needed licenses and permits from the state, county, and city, refurbished the hall, and incorporated the club. If I remember correctly, we opened the doors around late December 1973. The board members took turns serving as hosts on weekdays and weekends to members that subsequently joined the club and came to socialize with one another.

The club only lasted about two years. It was an admirable concept but it was not sufficiently patronized by the Maltese population on the Peninsula. The low membership could not sustain the required expenses not to mention the work involved. I am not sure when the doors closed. in 2023.

Obituary: on 5 February 1986: Tigers fans called her 'Nana' By JEANNE MAY Free Press Staff Writer Rose Fenech Gale's face was a landmark for generations of Tigers fans, whose cars she parked through 40 years of games and three World Series. But her son, Vince, said he didn't remember her ever going to a game. Mrs. Gale, whom Tigers fans called Nana, died Sunday at Lynn Hospital, in Lincoln Park. She was 88. She lived on Church Street, right across Mich igan Avenue from Tiger Stadium. Her parking lots were next door to her home and across the street from it. "Veterans Parking Lot," Vince Gale said. "She called them that because she f . i Gale had four boys in service in World War II. "She sat on the front porch greeting everyone. If she went inside for a moment, they'd say, 'Where's Grandma?' "It would just break her heart for the Tigers to lose. She was here for three World Series. She would sit on the porch here and watch them celebrate all night long." Mrs. Gale and her late husband, Charles, came to Detroit from the island of Malta. Charles Gale worked for Chrysler Corp., then opened a grocery store at Trumbull and Porter. Survivors include three other sons, Jerry, Joe and Paul; a daughter, Mary Micallef; 20 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
